What moves Chainlink (LINK)

As of October 11, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

What typically drives the price

Demand for oracle services. LINK is the token used to pay Chainlink node operators and to stake behind selected data feeds. The Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) moves messages and tokens across chains. When a large application or a large institution turns a feed or a CCIP lane on, the headline is public and LINK has moved with that class of news. The price move is not the same thing as the fee.

The reserve. Chainlink converts service revenue into LINK and holds it in an on-chain reserve. The project has said it does not expect withdrawals from that reserve for multiple years. BSCN, in an October 3, 2026 note, put the reserve near 6.12 million LINK in early October 2026. A Dune dashboard read around the same season showed about 6.20 million. The two figures are close and both are small next to supply. Weekly additions are a standing bid, not a one-day event. This page does not quote a live reserve balance.

Supply still coming out. LINK has a fixed cap of 1 billion. CoinGecko's markets response on October 11, 2026, 14:20 UTC, reported circulating supply of about 766.8 million. Coin Bureau, on October 4, 2026, said Chainlink describes a release pace equal to 7% of the 1 billion cap per year, which is 70 million LINK, from non-circulating wallets. A Dune projection built from recent releases put the observed cadence near 17.5 million LINK about every 84 days. That is a model of the past cadence, not a contract this page read. No single next release date was confirmed from a primary Chainlink post on October 11, 2026.

Staking v0.2. Staking v0.2 launched on November 28, 2023, with a pool cap of 45 million LINK (40.875 million community, the rest for node operators on in-scope data feeds). Community stakers are not slashed under that design. Unbonding is a 28-day cooldown plus a 7-day claim window. The pool being full, or a later expansion of what the stake secures, is the kind of protocol note that has drawn attention. It is not a new issuance event.

Leverage. CME listed LINK futures, and offshore perpetual markets trade it. Funding and liquidations can extend a move. Those feeds are not alert types until they are connected.

How much it usually moves

From October 12, 2025 through October 11, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for chainlink produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.

The median absolute move was 2.2%. The 90th percentile day was 5.9%. The price moved at least 5% on 57 days, at least 3% on 122 days, and at least 10% on 9 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 15.9%.

About 1 day in 6 cleared 5%. A fixed "5% up or down" rule fires several times a month on days that this window treats as ordinary for LINK. A release from non-circulating supply, when one happens, is not guaranteed to be one of those days, and a 5% day is not guaranteed to be a release. An unusual-move alert separates "wide for this month" from "cleared 5%."

A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.

Example alerts

These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.

  1. Tell me when Chainlink (LINK) moves more than usual within an hour.
  2. Tell me when LINK moves more than usual within 24 hours.
  3. Tell me when LINK's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.

Scheduled events as of October 11, 2026

No dated public supply event or mainnet upgrade was confirmed for the next quarter in the sources checked on October 11, 2026.

The release pace described above is a rate, not a clock time. Staking v0.2's cooldown is a per-staker timer, not a network event.
