What moves it

Each page describes drivers that already have a public record. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

How the daily-move counts were made

Each page reports close-to-close changes from CoinGecko:

GET /api/v3/coins/{id}/market_chart?vs_currency=usd&days=365&interval=daily

Retrieved October 11, 2026. The series runs from October 12, 2025 through October 11, 2026. A change is kept when the gap to the previous point is between 20 and 28 hours. That left 364 changes for every coin.

This is not a rolling 24-hour window, and it is not an hourly move. A 5% move inside one hour is a different, usually rarer, event. A bad or thin daily print can inflate the single largest day. The count of 5% days is the figure used to talk about a fixed 5% rule.

An unusual-move alert compares a new move with that coin's own recent range. The range changes. A fixed 5% rule does not. On a coin where 5% days are common, the fixed rule fires on ordinary days. On a coin where 5% days are rare, the fixed rule stays quiet through moves that are already large for that coin, then fires in a cluster when the range widens.
