What moves NEAR Protocol (NEAR)

As of October 11, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

What typically drives the price

Issuance to stakers. New NEAR is issued under a maximum annual rate. On October 30, 2025 the protocol cut that maximum from 5% to 2.5%. The NEAR Protocol account announced the completed upgrade that day. A nearone post on October 21, 2025 described the path: nearcore 2.9.0, and an 80% stake threshold among block-producing validators. An earlier community vote in August 2025 had not reached its own pass mark. The October change still waited on that stake threshold, and the threshold was met. This page does not quote a live staking rate. The rate moves with how much is staked.

Headlines about what the chain is for. Public writing about NEAR centers on chain abstraction and on software that acts for a user. Those headlines move attention. They are not a supply event, and they do not arrive on a clock.

A further issuance cut that this page did not confirm. A CoinMarketCal item dated September 30, 2026 described a House of Stake vote, with a date of October 11, 2026, on a plan to take the maximum rate from 2.5% toward 1.6%. This page did not open the proposal. It does not treat that date as confirmed, and it does not state a result.

Leverage. NEAR perpetual markets can force liquidations that extend a move. Funding and open interest are not alert types until that feed is connected. No large dated unlock was confirmed for the coming month in the sources checked on October 11, 2026. Issuance is a continuous drip.

How much it usually moves

From October 12, 2025 through October 11, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for near produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.

The median absolute move was 2.6%. The 90th percentile day was 8.5%. The price moved at least 5% on 90 days, at least 3% on 163 days, and at least 10% on 28 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 32.7%.

About 1 day in 4 cleared 5%. A fixed "5% up or down" rule messages you on a week that, in this window, was ordinary for NEAR. The median day was already 2.6%. An unusual-move alert asks whether today's move is wide for NEAR's recent range.

A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.

Example alerts

These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.

  1. Tell me when NEAR Protocol (NEAR) moves more than usual within an hour.
  2. Tell me when NEAR moves more than usual within 24 hours.
  3. Tell me when NEAR's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.

An unusual-move alert waits 4 hours before it can fire again, unless you change that. A volume alert waits 1 hour by default.
