What moves Sui (SUI)

As of October 11, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

What typically drives the price

A capped supply that unlocks for years. SUI has a maximum supply of 10 billion. The token generation event was May 3, 2023. Series A and Series B allocations are fully unlocked on the Tokenomics.com breakdown. What still vests, on that same breakdown, includes community reserves, stake subsidies, early contributors, and the Mysten Labs treasury. A large allocation, a bit over half of supply, has no published release date and sits past 2030. Stake subsidies are ongoing issuance for validators, not a one-time cliff.

Trackers do not print one identical next row:

Both can be true if they are different slices. This page does not add them together. The pattern that is stable across sources is a monthly release, on the order of tens of millions of SUI for the combined monthly basket in recent months, running toward December 2030 for the dated allocations.

Usage of the chain. Sui is a proof-of-stake chain with its own execution model. Application launches, stablecoin transfers, and outages or client bugs are the non-supply headlines that have lined up with sharp days. A busy chain does not by itself retire the unlock calendar.

Leverage. Perpetual funding and liquidations can extend a move. Those feeds are not alert types until they are connected. CoinGecko on October 11, 2026, 14:20 UTC, reported circulating supply of about 4.12 billion, in line with the "about 41% unlocked" figure on the tokenomics pages.

How much it usually moves

From October 12, 2025 through October 11, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for sui produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.

The median absolute move was 2.5%. The 90th percentile day was 6.7%. The price moved at least 5% on 67 days, at least 3% on 149 days, and at least 10% on 14 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 24.2%.

About 1 day in 5 cleared 5%. A fixed "5% up or down" rule fires on a week that this record treats as ordinary, including weeks that do not contain an unlock. An unusual-move alert uses Sui's own recent range. That is the better match for a coin whose rough day is already near 5% and whose supply dates are monthly rather than rare.

A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.

Example alerts

These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.

  1. Tell me when Sui (SUI) moves more than usual within an hour.
  2. Tell me when SUI moves more than usual within 24 hours.
  3. Tell me when SUI's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.

The 24-hour rule is the one to have on across the end of October and the November 3 calendar row. It does not fire because tokens unlocked. It fires because the price move was wide for SUI.
