What moves XRP (XRP)

As of October 11, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

What typically drives the price

The escrow calendar. In December 2017 Ripple placed 55 billion XRP into time-locked escrow on the XRP Ledger, in contracts of 1 billion. On the first day of each month, up to 1 billion XRP becomes releasable. Ripple can use some and put the rest into new escrow. The gross figure is not the amount that stays outside escrow.

The October 2026 release followed that pattern. On October 1, 2026, 1 billion XRP was released. Ripple then re-escrowed 700 million. A ledger reader, XRP Insights, reports that over the 12 releases from November 2025 through October 2026, 70% of the unlocked XRP was locked back up, about 300 million a month left outside escrow on a net basis. "Left outside escrow" is not the same as "sold." The net amount for a future month is not known until after the release.

US spot products. A secondary legal summary published July 1, 2026 says spot XRP products from seven issuers launched between September and December 2025. Creations and redemptions are a supply print on top of the escrow calendar. This page does not quote a live flow or a holding total. Check the issuer filings before treating a flow table as official.

Payments and legal headlines. XRP's design is a bridge asset for payments. Listings, product launches, and court or regulator headlines have lined up with sharp days for years. This page does not recap the court docket. The repeatable, dated item is the escrow, not a headline.

Leverage. Perpetual funding and liquidations can extend a move that started somewhere else. Those feeds are not alert types until they are connected.

How much it usually moves

From October 12, 2025 through October 11, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for ripple produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.

The median absolute move was 1.6%. The 90th percentile day was 5.0%. The price moved at least 5% on 35 days, at least 3% on 90 days, and at least 10% on 6 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 20.5%.

The 90th percentile day is the 5% bar. About 1 day in 10 cleared it. A fixed "5% up or down" rule therefore fires on days that are large and, in this window, not rare. It also ignores a long list of 3% days. An unusual-move alert uses XRP's own recent range, which is what changes between a quiet month and a month that includes an escrow date.

A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.

Example alerts

These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.

  1. Tell me when XRP (XRP) moves more than usual within an hour.
  2. Tell me when XRP moves more than usual within 24 hours.
  3. Tell me when XRP's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.

The November 1 escrow release is a reason to have the 24-hour unusual-move alert on before that morning. The release itself is not an alert type. The price move, if there is one, is.

Scheduled events as of October 11, 2026

XRP Insights read this from escrow FinishAfter fields at ledger 107,583,450 on October 11, 2026, 12:17 UTC. It is not Ripple's website. Ripple can add new escrow after a release, which extends the calendar.
