Verdict

NO-GO: no idea has enough demand evidence to build on this VPS in Sep 2026

The previous winner (Slip) was a Frankenstein of leftover patches after challengers killed every original idea. That is not a market study. Demand was never shown. This pass looked at shipping prices, Product Hunt, HN, and vendor pages dated 2026. The honest output is do not ship, not another SKU.

Why

People with cards this week pay for the agent that does the work: Cursor Pro $20 / Teams $40, Claude Pro $20 / Max from $100 (Claude Code included), Lindy $29.99–$199.99. Menlo (16 Sep 2026): consumer AI spend $40B; 55% of US AI users pay; regular agent users 92% pay. LangChain (Jun 2026): coding agents are the daily habit; quality is the blocker; cost dropped; 89% already have observability.

Nobody is paying $19–99/mo for a permit plane, a blast card, or a signed receipt:

• Permit.io’s own MCP Gateway Show HN: 2 points.
• Signed-receipt Show HN (cMCP): 9 points, comment flagged as AI-generated.
• Agent-budget MCP (l6e): founder had a $1,263 Cursor bill; HN 6 points; he shipped OSS, not a sub.
• ShieldMCP (paste mcp.json, get a score): $49 one-time PDF, 5 PH upvotes, 0 reviews.
• CodeFlowOps already does the 30-second MCP grade for free.
• September 2026 PH top 10 is auth/billing, coding agents, Slack bridges, models, sales demos, voice — not gateways, receipts, scanners, or quantum.

The incumbent for “stop the runaway loop” is Cursor’s spend limit and Claude’s usage cap — vendors the user already pays. Okta Agent SSO is free on core SSO (GA 24 Aug 2026). Langfuse Core is $29 and MIT-self-hostable. IBM Open Plan + Classroom Accounts are free real QPUs, no card.

cryptobook.space is a leftover crypto-social domain. That is a conversion tax, not a channel. 100–250 paying accounts at $19–99 requires a job people already buy. We do not have one.

What not to build

1. Slip / Hallpass / Permit Inbox / Blast Card — no WTP; Permit.io + free scanners + native IDE policy own the mechanism.
2. Hosted MCP/LLM proxy — key honeypot on this VPS; Permit.io / LiteLLM / Portkey.
3. Langfuse / Helicone / LangSmith clone — $0–$39, 89% adoption, Helicone frozen (Mintlify, Mar 2026) is not a hole.
4. Agent SSO / control plane — Okta $0 extra; IBM/Broadcom/Microsoft are sales-led.
5. MCP scanners / schema lockfiles / badges — CodeFlowOps, mcp-scan, golf-scanner, ShieldMCP. SSL Labs economics.
6. Freelance receipts, escrow, invoices — two-sided; protocols exist; money transmission if we hold funds.
7. Quantum anything — IBM free Composer + Classroom Accounts + $96/min PayGo. This box is numpy.
8. Auth/billing/MoR for AI builders (tiun/Creem job) — hottest PH theme this month, legal kill for us.
9. Slack-for-agents, website demo agents, no-code inbox teammates — Switch, Naoma, Lindy. Crowded.
10. Social CryptoBook. Mission: take social out. Do not cut nginx until a later demand-first GO.

Incomplete code under /root/cryptobook-next/app/ stays a prototype. Waiting is cheaper than a useless product.
