Loopcard marketing strategy
Date: 18 September 2026
Author: CMO, Virtus Labs
Product: Loopcard — shareable coding-agent bill cards
Brand: Loopcard (not CryptoBook, not Slip, not an MCP gateway)
Company: Virtus Blockchain Labs
Preview: https://cryptobook.space until loopcard.ai / loopcard.app / getloopcard.com DNS exists
Companion copy: docs/11-loopcard-product.md, docs/marketing/messaging.md, docs/marketing/social-launch-kit.md, docs/marketing/community-playbook.md, docs/marketing/calendar-30-days.md, docs/marketing/claims-we-will-not-make.md
This is the long strategy. The 30-day calendar and social kit are the scripts. This file is the why, the category, the enemy, the object that travels, the funnel, the KPIs we will actually look at, and what $0 versus $500 buys.
Floor of this work: Virtus Labs awareness.
Ceiling we will not promise: $19/mo conversion from a one-shot PNG generator.
Rule: no fake testimonials, no invented user counts, no “trusted by,” no SOC 2 theatre. If we cannot name a public post, we do not imply one.
0. The CMO sentence
Loopcard is a screenshot utility for a bill that already exists. It is not a sidecar for agents. It is not a dashboard. It is not a kill switch. The unit of growth is a 1080² PNG that someone posts because the number is embarrassing, impressive, or both.
If the PNG does not travel, the product does not exist. If the PNG travels and nobody pays $19, the launch still worked — we told the truth in public, we killed a worse product in public, and Virtus Labs is the company that made the card.
1. Category we occupy vs category we must not
1.1 Occupy: screenshot utility
The job is already happening without us:
- A developer screenshots the Anthropic console.
- A founder pastes a Cursor invoice into Slack.
- A Reddit thread posts a CSV crop of an overnight loop.
- A finance person asks “what is this line item” and gets a terminal dump.
The incumbents for seeing the number are the vendor dashboard, the CSV, and ccusage. The incumbents for stopping the number are Cursor spend limits, Claude caps, and the laptop. The hole is the object you can post: a square that is readable at phone width, that does not include the rest of the console, that names the loop, that a non-engineer will actually look at.
That is a screenshot utility. Lineage:
| Ancestor | Object that travels | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Qualys SSL Labs (2009–) | Letter grade A+→F | “How bad is this server, in one glyph” |
| carbon.now.sh / ray.so | Beautified code PNG | “This snippet, as a status object” |
| Spotify Wrapped / Raycast Wrapped | Copy-as-image recap | “My private stats, as a public card” |
| Duolingo streak screens | Streak / league PNG | “Proof of labor, humble brag” |
| 2026 agent-bill posts | Ugly dashboard crop | “Look what the loop did” |
Loopcard sits in the last row, with the craft of the first four. We do not invent the genre. We give the genre a template.
Category name we will use internally: screenshot utility / shareable bill card.
Category name we will use externally: “the screenshot after a runaway coding agent.”
Category name we will never use: “AI cost management platform.”
1.2 Must not occupy: gateway, observability, control plane
These categories are closed. The demand study (docs/02-market-study.md, docs/03-competitive-landscape.md) is the reason we killed Slip. Marketing does not reopen them in copy.
| Closed category | Who owns it this week | Why we lose if we look like them |
|---|---|---|
| MCP gateway | Permit.io (*.agent.security, Community free, Pro from $25). PH ~18 Mar 2026: #8, 138 upvotes. Own Show HN: 2 points. |
Drop-in URL already exists. “We also have a pretty receipt” is a feature checklist. |
| LLM traces / evals | Langfuse Core $29 / MIT $0; LangSmith $39/seat; Phoenix $0. LangChain survey 12 Jun 2026: 89% of builders already have observability. | We would be the 12th dashboard. |
| OpenAI-compatible proxy | LiteLLM OSS, Portkey $49, Helicone (maintenance mode after Mintlify, 3 Mar 2026) | Key custody. We do not want the keys. |
| Agent SSO | Okta Agent SSO $0 extra on core SSO (GA 24 Aug 2026) | Enterprise identity is free at the identity vendor. |
| MCP scanner / blast card | CodeFlowOps free 30s; mcp-scan / Snyk Agent Scan OSS; ShieldMCP $49 PDF (5 PH upvotes, 0 reviews) | SSL Labs economics without SSL Labs grade. A PDF nobody screenshots. |
| Spend attribution / FinOps | SuperPenguin (Growth $30/mo, Pro $200/mo); StackSpend; Torii; Vantage | Real product, real COGS, Mac/SDK/team. Not a PNG. |
| Kill switch | Cursor spend limit, Claude caps, budgetclaw SIGTERM on local logs |
We show the bill after. Claiming we stop the loop is a lie. |
If a contractor, a PH hunter, or an agent writes “Loopcard is the observability layer for agent spend,” delete the page. That sentence puts us in a room with Langfuse and SuperPenguin, where we have no traces, no SDK, and no right to win.
1.3 The SSL Labs lesson (what we steal, what we refuse)
Ivan Ristić launched SSL Labs in 2009 as a free online assessment plus a public rating guide. He joined Qualys in 2010. By 2016 he wrote that hundreds of thousands of people were on the site monthly, usually several times, and that the letter grade had become a de-facto standard. Heartbleed (April 2014) put a million sessions on the box in a couple of days. Qualys kept it free. There was never a $19 “unwatermarked A+.” The grade is the product. People screenshot the big letter. Procurement asks for it. Blog posts teach “how to get A+.” The company that paid for the servers sold a different SKU (Qualys VM/Cloud Platform) to a different buyer.
Steal: one glyph (or one number) that is public, comparable, and screenshotable. No account to see the result. Methodology public enough to argue with. The object is the marketing.
Refuse: pretending the free grade is a path to a $19 sidecar for the same job. SSL Labs did not become Qualys’ PLG motion for a “TLS observability platform” sold to the person who ran the test. If Qualys monetized, it was enterprise security, years later, different buyer. Loopcard’s Pro ($19 history / unwatermarked / public /c/ URL) is optional upside, not the strategy. ShieldMCP’s $49 PDF with 5 PH upvotes is what happens when you charge for the screenshot and have no viral object.
SSLBoard (2026) still describes SSL Labs as: type a hostname, wait, get A+→F, no structured export, so “if you need to attach TLS evidence… you’re taking screenshots.” That sentence is the category. The industry standard is a screenshot.
1.4 The carbon / ray.so lesson (screenshot utilities that actually grew)
carbon.now.sh’s own about page is the brief: “You know all of those code screenshots you see on Twitter? … we saw room for improvement in the aesthetic department.” GitHub: ~35.9k stars. The product is still a paste-and-export page. It did not become an IDE. It did not become “code observability.” It became the default look of a snippet on the timeline.
ray.so (Raycast) is the 2020s version: Dub.co’s public case (checked 2026) says 100,000+ developers monthly, 2,000+ new share links / month, 25,000+ clicks / month on those links. The growth unit is the image and the short URL, not a pricing page. Raycast later put Copy as Image on Wrapped (2025 recap, written up Feb 2026): one button turns private productivity data into a Slack/Discord object. People imitate what they see. That is the loop we want.
A 20 Feb 2026 DEV post noted carbon.now.sh had not committed since December 2024. The category did not die. Clones and CLIs (carbon-now-cli, rayshot) appeared because the job (make a square for the timeline) is durable. Loopcard should expect clones. The defense is not a patent. It is being the template people already have in their camera roll.
What we could not source: a 2025–2026 one-shot tool literally named “Crast” with a documented growth curve. If that was a local shorthand for carbon/ray.so-class screenshotters, the lesson is the same: no account, PNG in one click, the post is the funnel. We will not invent a Crast case study.
1.5 The spend-screenshot lesson (the genre we are joining)
This is not theoretical in 2026. The timeline already treats agent bills as content.
| Story | Date / source | What people actually posted |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code overnight ~$6,000 | MakeUseOf, 22 May 2026 (Reddit post write-up); CloudZero, 18 May 2026 | The number. The loop (30-minute update check, cache TTL mismatch). Shame + arithmetic. |
| Uber burned entire 2026 AI budget in four months on Claude Code | Forbes, 17 May 2026 (CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga to The Information); later $1,500/employee/tool cap | Org-scale version of the same screenshot. Not a Loopcard case study. Do not imply Uber used us. |
| Cursor month $1,263 on HN | Cited in our demand pack; founder shipped OSS, not a $19 gateway | The correct founder instinct. We agree with it in public. |
| JPMorgan $2,000/mo Claude limits for some engineers | Business Insider, 17 Sep 2026 | Enterprise cap as news. The card is what a smaller team forwards to finance. |
| Viberank public board | viberank.app, opened 18 Sep 2026 | 1.2k developers, $14.2M tracked, 16.4T tokens. #1 StartupBros $316k. June 2026 monthly: $1.97M across 400 devs, median $1,845, top 10% above $12,850. Tiers named Spark → Supernova. |
| CCWarriors | ccwarriors.xyz / GitHub distroinfinity/ccwarriors | “See who’s burning the most tokens, claim your rank, flex on the timeline.” README badge with rank + 30-day burn. |
| Gartner on agentic coding bills | The Register, 24 Jun 2026 | Bills leaping from $20/$100 to $2,000–$5,000/dev/mo; extremes $20,000. Prediction: AI coding cost vs salary by 2028. |
Viberank and CCWarriors prove the status half of the emotion. The $6,000 overnight and the CFO Slack DM prove the shame half. Loopcard is the mugshot that works for both. We are not a leaderboard (they already exist, they ingest ccusage JSON). We are the single card you post when you are not trying to win Supernova — you are trying to show this loop, this night, this much.
1.6 The Product Hunt lesson (23 people reached pricing)
Adi Leviim, We Won #1 Product of the Day. Twenty Three People Reached Our Pricing Page. (Medium, 7 Sep 2026), on AI Toolbox 3.0:
-
1 Product of the Day, 410 upvotes (6 Sep 2026).
- 539 sessions to the site across two days.
- Seven-day average before launch: 1,930 sessions/day. The entire PH effect ≈ 28% of one ordinary day.
- 479 landed on the homepage. 23 reached pricing. 3 hit install-success. 4.3% homepage→pricing, with a 50% launch discount live.
- Founder’s own conclusion: they won because tens of thousands of people already used the product, and then they asked them.
Our own demand pack already logged this (docs/02-market-study.md §1.4). Permit.io’s MCP Gateway on PH: #8, 138 upvotes, Show HN 2 points. ShieldMCP: 5 upvotes. September 2026 PH leaderboard: nothing in the top 10 is an MCP gateway, blast card, signed receipt, or quantum classroom.
Implication for Loopcard: Product Hunt is a badge after the PNG is already moving, not a demand engine. A cold PH of a screenshot tool is how you get 12 upvotes and a graveyard page. Even a #1, for a product with an existing audience, sent 23 people to a price. We will not put a price on the critical path in the first 90 days. We will not hire a hunter. We will not treat upvotes as cards downloaded.
Plain AI’s 2024–2026 PH recap: 67 AI launches in 2023, 783 in 2026, ~40% of new products. The feed is noise. A PNG that is already on X is the only differentiator a one-shot tool has.
2. Brand narrative, enemy, ally
2.1 Narrative (the story we tell in every channel)
Once: coding agents got good enough to leave running.
Then: the bill stopped looking like a $20 seat. Overnight loops, cache misses, 30-minute cron, Uber’s four-month budget, a Cursor month on HN.
Vendors: showed a total in a dashboard built for the person who already has the login.
CLIs: ccusage, cctally, claude-code-cost told the truth in a terminal.
Finance / timeline / cofounder: still got a spreadsheet screenshot.
We: made the mugshot. One click. No account. File stays in the browser.
We are not: the people who stop the loop. That is the vendor cap, or the laptop.
Origin story we are allowed to tell (because it is true and dated): Virtus Labs spent September 2026 studying MCP permit gateways, blast-radius scanners, signed receipts, hosted proxies, and a Langfuse clone. Demand is not there. Permit.io already is the URL. Native IDE policy already exists. We killed those ideas. The leftover job that still has a screenshot is this card. CryptoBook social is retired. The domain is leftover until we buy a clean one. No token.
That paragraph is more trustworthy than any “the future of agentic cost.” It is also the Show HN. Do not sand it down.
2.2 Enemy (name it)
The enemy is not Anthropic. Not Anysphere. Not ccusage. Not SuperPenguin.
Enemy 1 — the ugly crop. The CSV in Slack. The console screenshot with the rest of the billing UI, the account id, the nav. The thing that makes a non-engineer bounce.
Enemy 2 — the fake control plane. “Agent governance,” “MCP gateway in 60 seconds,” “AI Act ready,” SOC 2 badges on a PNG generator, “we stop the runaway.” The market already punished this (Permit.io Show HN 2 points; ShieldMCP 5 upvotes). If we look like them, we inherit their indifference.
Enemy 3 — our own leftover name. “CryptoBook” in an H1 or an ad for a developer tool is a conversion haircut. Finance challenge on the domain: 30–50%. Say the domain is leftover every time we post until DNS moves.
Enemy 4 — invented social proof. Fake testimonials, logo rows, “used by developers at Accenture.” MCP Observatory did that pattern. We will not. A single organic card from a named person beats a wall of fake faces.
2.3 Ally — ccusage (and the local CLI family)
ccusage (ryoppippi) is the accounting. As of 17–18 Sep 2026 it reads local usage for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Amp, Droid, Copilot CLI, Gemini CLI, and a long tail, and prints daily/weekly/monthly/session tables. npx ccusage@latest. No API key. Community page lists Viberank, CCWarriors, Token Battle, Straude, menu-bar apps, a Neovim plugin.
Positioning sentence (public, permanent):
ccusageis the terminal. Loopcard is the thing you actually post. Different jobs. If you already have the CLI, keep it.
Tactics that follow from treating them as an ally:
- Parse
ccusageJSON (daily[]/totalCost) in the browser. Already in the product spec. If headers drift, fix the same day. - Never “vs ccusage” as a takedown. Two-panel images are allowed if the CLI side is respectful.
- One DM to the maintainer (community playbook DM 3): offer to match their export; offer to keep their name off the page if they want no association.
- If they add a
--pngor a card theme, we congratulate them and link it. The job is the shareable object. We do not need to be the only renderer. - Same posture for
cctally,claude-code-cost, Costroid, CodeBurn, budgetclaw: they are deeper accounting or a kill switch. We are the mugshot. Point people at them when the ask is “stop it” or “attribute it.”
SuperPenguin is a cousin, not an enemy: $30 / $200 for attributed spend, Mac app, PR cost. Use it if you need a ledger. Loopcard is the public card. Do not DM them for a “partnership.” Do not scrape their marketing.
2.4 Brand character
Virtus: near-black, magenta #e91e8a, Inter, short sentences, slightly sharp. Premium engineering, not neon cyberpunk, not a dashboard template.
Voice tests:
| Pass | Fail |
|---|---|
| “It’s the screenshot after a runaway agent.” | “Revolutionizing AI cost observability.” |
| “$6,000 is a published overnight. Labeled re-creation.” | “Our users save thousands overnight.” |
| “ccusage is better accounting.” | “The only usage tool you’ll need.” |
| “Free. If we charge, it will be on /pricing first.” | “Limited-time launch discount.” |
| “We killed the gateway idea.” | “The OS for agents.” |
US English. 18+. US-oriented. Not legal advice. No WAGMI, no ticker, no dual-diamond redrawn in pink (mark stays the Virtus gradient; UI is pink).
3. The viral object (the PNG) and why people post spending shame / status
3.1 What the object is
A 1080×1080 PNG: dark canvas, pink bloom, LOOPCARD watermark, one huge amount, one loop line, four meta cells (kind / origin / keys / note). Demos are labeled “Published 2026 reporting” — never “a customer.” Optional public URL /c/:id carries aggregates only.
Why square: X, LinkedIn, Reddit, Discord, iMessage all crop rectangles. A 1080 square is readable at phone width without the vendor chrome. carbon.now.sh and ray.so already trained the audience that a designed square is how developers post numbers and code.
3.2 Why this number gets posted (the psychology we will not moralize away)
Two motives, often in the same person, often in the same week.
Shame (the overnight, the CFO DM, the loop).
Screenshots of money have a documented job as receipts: evidence, proof, “look what happened.” A 2023 smartphone-screenshot study found finance-app captures clustered on words like evidence / proof. Public shaming literature (Corry 2021; follow-on 2026 arXiv on screenshot-sharing motives) is about making a private event portable. The 2026 agent-bill genre is this: “I woke up to a Slack DM from my CFO that I’d rather not paste in full.” The card lets them paste the number without pasting the invoice, the account id, or the repo.
We will not dunk on the person. We will not use the word “stupid.” The script is: the loop did what it was told; the cost model is not the cost model in your head; here is the mugshot.
Status (the flex, the leaderboard, the Supernova tier).
Viberank’s named tiers (Spark $0 → Supernova $50k+) and CCWarriors’ “flex on the timeline” / GitHub README badge are the 2026 form of “I ship so hard the meter is a personality.” Duolingo’s screenshot instrumentation (Startup Spells, 19 Dec 2025): streak screens were the biggest share event — proof of labor, a humble brag wrapped in data — and designing those screens for Twitter/Instagram aspect ratios produced a reported 5×–10× increase in organic sharing. Raycast Wrapped’s Copy as Image is the same mechanic for developers.
Loopcard must work for both $47 and $6,000. The $6k demo is the horror-story hook. The median (~$480 in the 30-team audit cited in 2026 reporting) is the quiet, shareable truth. Do not only ship ragebait. Ragebait without a “make yours” path is a news recap, not a product.
3.3 Why people will not post (design against these)
| Blocker | Design |
|---|---|
| Fear of leaking account ids / keys / prompts | Browser parse. No API keys. Publish = aggregates only. If a row looks like a key, it never should have been in a usage export — we do not upload the file. |
| “This is my employer’s money” | Anonymized amounts. No repo names. Caption copy that is safe to send to finance. |
| Ugly at phone width | 1080², huge type, one loop line. |
| Feels like a crypto thing | Product name Loopcard. “CryptoBook is leftover domain” in every launch post until DNS moves. |
| Feels like we are scraping Anthropic | Never ask for a session cookie. CFAA is not a joke we want to test. CSV they already exported, or the public demo. |
| “I could screenshot the dashboard” | Yes. Say so. The card is for when the crop is ugly. If a crop is enough, do that. |
3.4 The watermark is a feature, not a tax
At launch the PNG is watermarked LOOPCARD. That is how SSL Labs grades and carbon windows work: the object carries the maker. Unwatermarked is the only honest thing to charge for later. Do not remove the watermark in week one to “look premium.” The watermark is the referral.
Public /c/:id links are the second object: they unfurl on Slack/X the way carbon saved snippets unfurl. Track them. They are a KPI (section 7).
4. Positioning vs Cursor / Claude dashboards
4.1 We are not a replacement. We are a crop.
Anthropic console / Claude /usage |
Cursor dashboard / spend limit | Loopcard | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Job | Total, windows, plan bars | Total, seat, the actual brake | Square you can post |
| Audience | The person with the login | The person with the login | Timeline, Slack, the person who pays and does not have the login |
| Stops the loop? | Caps / plan limits | Spend limit | No |
| Login | Yes | Yes | No |
| File / keys | Their account | Their account | Optional CSV in the browser, or demo |
| Object | HTML dashboard | HTML dashboard | PNG + optional /c/ |
Never compare quality of codegen. Never say “cheaper than Cursor.” Never say “unlike Claude, we show you spend” — they do show spend. They show it there. We show it here, as a card.
4.2 The sentence that keeps us out of court and out of the wrong category
Cursor’s spend limit remains the actual brake. Loopcard is the mugshot after.
If someone markets us as a kill switch, they are wrong. Correct it in the thread. The community playbook already has this reply. Use it.
4.3 Competitive frame we will use
Named comparison (allowed):
- vs vendor dashboard: total vs card.
- vs CSV / spreadsheet screenshot: same data, designed for phone width, no chrome.
- vs
ccusage: terminal vs PNG. - vs SuperPenguin / StackSpend: ledger vs mugshot.
- vs Viberank / CCWarriors: leaderboard vs one-night card.
- vs Permit.io / Langfuse / Okta Agent SSO: we are none of these; we studied them and killed the SKU.
Forbidden comparison:
- vs Cursor on coding quality.
- “The only MCP gateway.”
- “Like Langfuse but simpler.”
- “Makes you EU AI Act ready.”
4.4 Buyer (honest)
| Person | Do they pay $19? | What they do with the card |
|---|---|---|
| Solo / indie who just got a surprise tab | Unlikely. They wanted the PNG. | Post it. Send it to a cofounder. |
| Tech lead at 5–20 people | Maybe Pro later, for history and unwatermarked team cards | Forward to whoever pays. |
| Finance / ops | They want a forwardable object, not another vendor | Receive the PNG. They are not the PLG click. |
Power user with ccusage already |
No. They have the terminal. | Might still want the square once. |
| Residual cryptobook.space visitor (~65 IPs/week) | No. They wanted the old social. | Ignore. Do not write “for teams running agents in production” as if they were this audience. |
The poster is the growth user. The payer of the agent bill is the audience of the PNG, not of our checkout. Do not confuse them in ads.
5. Messaging house
Supersedes the holding-page messaging in docs/marketing/messaging.md for Loopcard surfaces. Holding-page rules still apply to any leftover CryptoBook copy: no fake AI launch, no waitlist with no product.
5.1 Primary (say this until it is boring)
Master (external):
Loopcard turns a Claude or Cursor bill into a shareable card. One click. No account. Your file never leaves the browser.
H1: The screenshot after a runaway agent.
Tagline (PH, OG, bios): The screenshot after a runaway coding agent.
60-second:
“Someone’s Claude Code ran overnight. Six thousand dollars. Here’s the card. Drop your export — it never leaves the browser. Loopcard.”
Proof, all dated, all labeled as public reporting — not our users:
- ~$6,000 Claude Code overnight (MakeUseOf 22 May 2026; CloudZero 18 May 2026). Re-creation, labeled.
- Uber’s 2026 AI budget gone in four months (Forbes 17 May 2026). Not a case study.
- Cursor month $1,263 on HN; founder shipped OSS. Agree with the instinct.
- 30-team audit: median ~$480/mo, 90th ~$1,650 (2026 reporting cited in product demos). Re-creation, labeled.
- We killed Slip / MCP gateway after a demand study. Permit.io already is the URL.
CTA primary: Download card.
CTA secondary: Drop your export / Copy caption / Publish share URL.
5.2 Secondary (rotate, never lead)
ccusageis a terminal. Loopcard is the mugshot.- Your agent has a bar tab. Here’s the receipt.
- We are not selling a gateway. We’re selling the screenshot.
- The person who pays the bill does not want a CSV in Slack.
- Free at launch. If we charge, history + unwatermarked, on
/pricingfirst. - Preview on cryptobook.space — leftover domain. Product name is Loopcard. Virtus Labs.
LinkedIn may use the Uber / finance-forward angle. Reddit may use the “I got tired of CSV screenshots” angle. Shorts may use the $6k tick-up. X launch thread is the canonical 7-post in the social kit. Do not invent a fourth personality.
5.3 Banned (delete the post)
From docs/marketing/claims-we-will-not-make.md, plus Loopcard-specific:
| Claim | Why |
|---|---|
| Fake testimonials, “trusted by,” user counts, ARR | Not true |
| SOC 2 / ISO / NIST / “AI Act compliant” | We have not done those audits |
| “We stop the runaway” / “we kill the loop” / “we cap spend” | We show the bill. Vendors cap. |
| “100% secure” | Forbidden by brief and by reality |
| “MCP gateway in 60 seconds” | Permit.io’s line |
| “Cheaper than Cursor” / “replace Cursor” | Different job |
| “The OS for agents” / “coming soon: the future of agentic AI” | Empty |
| “Used by Accenture / Cisco / Uber” | Uber is published reporting, not a customer |
| Token ticker, airdrop, WAGMI | Securities / scam surface |
| “No risk of CFAA because we said allow” | User remains the actor; we do not scrape |
| “Proves the agent did the work” | A PNG is not an audit opinion |
| Other people’s private invoices | Public news numbers only, labeled |
| “23 people reached pricing so PH is useless” used as dunking on AI Toolbox | Cite the numbers; do not mock the founder |
If a contractor pastes these, delete the page.
5.4 Proof points we may use (dated Sep 2026)
- Menlo Ventures 2026 State of Consumer AI (GlobeNewswire 16 Sep 2026; 5,067 US adults, July 2026): global consumer AI spend $40B (from $12B in 2025); 55% of US AI users pay; 14% of payers spend $100+/mo and ~60% of US consumer AI spend; 92% of regular agent users pay.
- Cursor Pro $20/mo; Claude Pro $20 with Claude Code included; Max from $100.
- LangChain State of Agent Engineering, 12 Jun 2026 (1,340 responses): coding agents dominate daily use.
- This domain: ~65 unique IPs / week — do not cite publicly as a flex.
5.5 House diagram
PRIMARY SECONDARY BANNED

download PNG free, billing later CryptoBook in the H1
6. Funnel: impression → site → PNG → post → new impression
This is not a SaaS funnel. Do not draw AARRR and put “activation = signup.” There is no signup.
[ impression ] X / LinkedIn / Reddit / Shorts / (later) PH
│ object: PNG in the feed, or a 15s of the card filling in
▼
[ site ] cryptobook.space → later loopcard.*
│ 60s aha: demo buttons work with no file
▼
[ PNG ] Download 1080² OR Copy caption OR Publish /c/:id
│ watermark on
▼
[ post ] their account, their number (or the labeled demo)
│ “make yours” in the caption we copied for them
▼
[ new impression ]
6.1 Conversion events that matter (in order)
- Hero impression with the card visible — if the post has no PNG, it is not a Loopcard post.
- Session on / with demo click (
$6,000 night/$1,263 month/$480 median). - Download PNG (primary) or Publish /c/:id (secondary object).
- Outbound post we can see (quote, Reddit image, LinkedIn native upload).
- Only much later:
/pricingview. Not a launch KPI.
6.2 Friction we will not add
- Account wall
- API key field
- Email gate before download
- “Start free trial”
- Waitlist
- Discord required
- Hunter-for-hire
- Cross-posting Show HN into Reddit on day one
6.3 Friction we will add on purpose
- Watermark (referral).
- Label on demo data (“Published 2026 reporting”).
- Leftover-domain sentence until DNS moves.
- PH gated on organic cards (calendar Day 22): at least 3 public non-operator Loopcard PNGs, or one personal-export card plus two others.
6.4 Channel roles
| Channel | Role in the loop | Do not use it for |
|---|---|---|
| X | Native habitat of the bill-screenshot genre. Launch thread + quote-posts. | Daily “thought leadership” without a card. |
| Operator / Virtus. Finance-forward. Uber as reporting, not a customer. | Fake enterprise case studies. | |
| Reddit r/ClaudeAI, r/cursor, r/LocalLLaMA | One post per sub, rewritten, sidebar checked. Attach the PNG. | Copypasta. Second Show HN. Fighting mods. |
| Show HN | Once. Technical honesty. “Just use ccusage” is a gift. | Title edits after launch. Voting rings. |
| TikTok / Shorts / Reels | 15s card fill-in. $6k tick. CSV drop with synthetic file. | Hoodie-hacker B-roll. Fake MRR dashboards. |
| Product Hunt | After organic cards. Maker comment from the playbook. | Cold launch. Paid hunter. |
| SEO | Secondary. docs/marketing/seo-pages.md. cryptobook.space will not rank us into Cursor users this quarter. |
Keyword-stuff “agentic AI platform.” |
| None. No list. | Buying a list. | |
| cryptobook.space residual (~65 IPs/wk) | Ignore as a growth channel. | “Our community.” |
Show HN math we will plan against, not fantasize past: Causo Hub’s 2026 playbook cites author reports of 5k–30k visits and 50–400 signups on a front-page developer-tool Show HN, conversion often <5%. We do not have signups. Translate: a hit is thousands of visits and tens-to-low-hundreds of PNG downloads. A miss is nothing. One post. Sit the thread.
6.5 Copy-caption is part of the product
The “Copy post text” button is a growth feature. The caption must include the short URL and “make yours.” If the user posts the PNG without a URL, the watermark has to do the work. Measure both.
7. KPIs that matter vs vanity
7.1 North-star (90 days)
Cards downloaded (PNG saves from the studio).
If we can only instrument one thing, this is it. A download is the closest we get to “they have the object.”
7.2 The three that tell us the loop is real
| KPI | Why it is real | How we count | Vanity cousin |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNG downloads | They took the object | download clicks + CLI file writes if we log them |
Pageviews |
Public /c/ links created |
They chose a URL that can unfurl | POST to publish; unique /c/:id |
“Shares” we cannot see |
| Quote-posts / organic cards | Someone else’s audience saw the object | Manual log in docs/marketing/organic-cards/ (URL, handle, date). Calendar Day 19 already requires this folder. |
Likes on our launch tweet |
Secondary, still honest:
- Demo button clicks (aha without a file).
- CSV/JSON/JSONL parses that produce a non-demo amount (they used their number).
- Caption copies.
- Parser-fail reports that we fix same day (quality, not vanity).
7.3 Vanity (look, then ignore for decisions)
| Metric | Why it lies |
|---|---|
| Product Hunt upvotes | AI Toolbox: 410 upvotes → 23 pricing views. Permit.io: 138 upvotes, Show HN 2 points. |
| X impressions on our posts | Paid or follower-graph. Not a card in the wild. |
| Unique IPs on cryptobook.space | Residual social. ~65/week is not a Cursor audience. |
| Time on site | The aha is 60 seconds. Long sessions may mean the parser is broken. |
| GitHub stars (if we later open a repo) | carbon has 35.9k and had no commits; stars ≠ PNG posts. |
| Newsletter mentions | Nice. Not a KPI until we can tie them to downloads. |
| “Brand awareness” surveys | We will not run one. |
7.4 Explicitly not a 90-day KPI
- MRR
- Free→paid conversion
- CAC
- NPS
- “Activated teams”
docs/04-financial-plan.md needed 263 paying accounts at $19 to hit $5k MRR. One-shot viral tools often never get there. We will not manage the first 90 days as if they will. If /pricing traffic appears organically, record it. Do not optimize the homepage for it.
7.5 Targets (planning numbers, not press)
These are internal planning bands, not claims we will tweet.
| Window | Weak | Alive | Strong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Days 1–30 | <50 PNG downloads; 0 organic cards | 50–300 downloads; 3+ organic cards (the PH gate) | 300+ downloads; 10+ organic cards; /c/ links in the wild |
| Days 31–60 | Loop stall; we are the only posters | Weekly organic cards without us asking | People post their amounts, not only the $6k demo |
| Days 61–90 | We start talking about a gateway again (fail) | PH done or honestly skipped; domain moved; parser matches current exports | Watermarked cards still appearing without a calendar |
Kill / change criteria:
- Parser broken on current Claude/Cursor/ccusage exports for >48 hours → stop posting, fix.
- Zero organic cards by Day 30 → no PH. Continue public-story cards. Do not buy upvotes.
- Organic cards exist but every one is the $6k demo → the product is a news recap. Push CSV drop and manual amount harder.
- We start getting “is this a scam / crypto” as the dominant reply → domain move is now P0, not P2.
8. Ninety-day strategy
Calendar days 1–30 are already written (docs/marketing/calendar-30-days.md). This section is the quarter, including what happens if the gate fails.
Phase 0 — before Day 1 (operator, not marketing theatre)
- [ ] Demo buttons, PNG download, CSV drop work on a clean phone browser.
- [ ]
$6k/$1,263/$480cards labeled as re-creations. - [ ] Copy-caption includes URL + “make yours.”
- [ ] Leftover-domain sentence in every launch asset.
- [ ]
docs/marketing/organic-cards/folder exists (empty is fine). - [ ] Handles: X
@loopcard/@getloopcardif available. - [ ] Domain buy in motion (
loopcard.ai/.app/getloopcard.com). Marketing does not wait on it, but every week it slips is a tax. - [ ] No Stripe.
/pricingsays free, billing later.
Phase 1 — Days 1–30: seed the genre (the calendar)
Job: put the $6k card on the timeline; say what we are not; collect organic PNGs.
- Days 1–7: launch thread, r/ClaudeAI, 15s, r/cursor, LinkedIn, “what we are not,” r/LocalLLaMA.
- Days 8–21: ask for worse overnights (number only), ccusage vs Loopcard, how-to, Uber-as-reporting, honest limits, Cursor $1,263, median/90th, harvest.
- Days 22–30: PH gate. GO only if organic cards exist. Otherwise post the NO-GO copy and keep making cards.
Show HN: one time, weekday 8:00–10:00 PT, product works on a phone. Full text in the community playbook. Ten DMs, named, one ask, stop if ignored.
Owner metric: PNG downloads + organic-card folder.
Phase 2 — Days 31–60: their numbers, not ours
Job: stop being a news recap of MakeUseOf.
- Parser truth. If real Claude / Cursor / Anthropic / ccusage exports fail, that reply is worth more than a launch post. Fix same day. Announce the fix with a card, not a changelog novel.
- CLI path.
node cli/loopcard.js [file] [--publish]is for people who will not drag a CSV. Document it like a Unix tool. Do not wrap it in “AI agent.” - Public
/c/as the unfurl object. OG image = the card. If Slack/X unfurl is ugly, that is a product bug with marketing consequences. - Feature anonymized amounts only with permission. No restyling someone’s number into ads without asking.
- Quiet cadence. 3–4 posts/week, not 1/day, unless the folder is filling. Repeating the $6k demo after week 5 is noise.
- Still no PH if Phase 1 gate failed. Still no price.
Owner metric: share of downloads that are non-demo amounts; new /c/ links; organic cards per week.
Phase 3 — Days 61–90: badge, domain, honest price talk
Job: look like a real small product, not a leftover social domain with a canvas.
- Domain cutover. H1 never says CryptoBook. Swap
{{URL}}everywhere. - Product Hunt only if the gate is now green. Maker comment from the playbook. Sit comments. Do not cross-post “we launched on PH” if we did not.
/pricingcopy, still not charging unless we have a reason beyond “SaaS supposed to.” Honest: Pro = unwatermarked PNG, public share URL, 90-day history, $19/mo later. Studio = team cards, CSV of the week, $49/mo later. If we flip Stripe, we say so on the page before we take a card. One-shot tools often never earn $19. We know that.- Do not add SSO, Langfuse, MCP, or “agent security” because a PH comment asked.
- Virtus Labs as the floor: the company that studied the wrong category, killed it, and shipped the leftover screenshot. That story is the brand residual if Pro never happens.
Owner metric: organic cards still appearing without a calendar; /c/ unfurls; domain no longer the first objection.
90-day “we will not”
- A second Show HN (“now with dark mode”).
- Directory spam (LaunchRepo, random AI tool lists) until something retains.
- Paid hunter.
- Fake UGC grid.
- Pivot back to Slip because the PNG “isn’t a real company.”
9. Budget: $0 media vs $500 test
VPS is sunk. Time is the real spend. docs/04-financial-plan.md and docs/05-marketing-plan.md already say $0 media until GO. Loopcard is the GO for a screenshot product. Media still starts at zero.
9.1 $0 media (default)
| Line | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ads | $0 | No “MCP security” keywords, no “Cursor alternative” |
| PH hunter | $0 | Organic cards or skip |
| Influencer kits | $0 | 10 DMs, not a hundred |
| Stock video | $0 | Screen recording of the real card |
| Design system | $0 incremental | Virtus theme already exists |
| Domain | operator buy | Not media; do it anyway |
| Time | operator | Calendar + thread-sitting + parser fixes |
This is how SSL Labs grew (free, grade, screenshots), how carbon grew (Twitter PNGs), how ray.so grew (images + short links), how Viberank grew (npx + flex). It is also how AI Toolbox converted (existing users). We do not have existing users. $0 is not a virtue; it is the only budget that matches a product with no WTP proof.
9.2 $500 test (optional, after the loop is real)
Do not spend $500 to create the loop. Spend it only if Phase 1 already produced organic cards and we want to know whether paid can amplify a card that already works.
Allowed experiments (pick one, not three):
| Test | How | Success | Fail / stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| A. Boost the best organic card | $200–300 on X to lookalike of eng/dev in US, 18+, creative = the PNG + “make yours,” URL to / with demo. No “#1 platform.” |
PNG downloads attributable to the campaign > organic baseline for those days; CPA-to-download we can live with as a test, not a channel | Clicks, no downloads; comments are “is this crypto”; we retarget pricing |
| B. Domain + OG polish | If DNS is the blocker, put the $500 into the domain year + nothing else. This is the highest-EV “marketing” spend on a leftover name. | Objection table’s “cryptobook domain” row stops dominating | We bought a name and still post from cryptobook.space |
| C. One Shorts edit | $200 to a human editor for three 15s from our raw screen recordings (Day 3/13/20 scripts). Not an agency retainer. | Completion rate; profile visits; downloads in the same window | Faceless AI-slop that looks like every other $6k-ragebait ad |
Forbidden uses of $500:
- Product Hunt upvote packages (the 50-launch 2026 writeups that sell them are not our strategy).
- Google Ads on “MCP gateway” or “Claude cost optimizer.”
- Fake testimonial production.
- Buying a newsletter blast for a PNG generator (“if it is too small for the list, it is too small”).
- Boosting a post that has no card.
Expectation setting: $500 will not produce 263 paying accounts. It will not outspend Cursor. It might buy a few hundred extra impressions of an object that already wants to travel. If test A cannot beat organic CPA-to-download, we do not “optimize the funnel.” We go back to $0 and more honest posts.
9.3 What we will never budget for
- SOC 2 to put a badge on a bill card.
- A sales hire.
- A conference booth.
- “Agentic AI” content mills.
- Crypto KOL retainers.
10. Risks the CMO will not hide
- One-shot tools do not convert to $19/mo. carbon.now.sh did not. SSL Labs did not (on the test itself). Treat Pro as upside; treat Virtus awareness as the floor. (
docs/11-loopcard-product.md§6 already says this.) - Local CLIs remain good enough for power users. We win on beauty and share, not accounting depth.
- The $6k number can be called ragebait. It is labeled published reporting. Drop-your-export is the answer. We will not pretend it is our invoice.
- PH #1 can still be 23 people on pricing. We will not chase that chart.
- Clones. If someone OSS’s a better card, we link it. The job is the object.
- CFAA. No scraping vendor accounts. No “paste your cookie.”
- Domain tax. CryptoBook in the feed reads as a token. Move DNS.
- Support time. If parser tickets exceed a few hours/week under zero revenue, the SKU is still a marketing site with a canvas — which is allowed, if we admit it.
11. Operating cadence (marketing)
Weekly, 15 minutes, operator + whoever sits the threads:
- PNG downloads (and demo vs own-file split if we have it).
- New
/c/links. - Organic-card folder: new URLs or none.
- Parser failures open.
- Banned-claim audit: did we say “stop the loop” this week? Delete.
- PH gate status: green / not.
- Domain status.
Monthly: one honest recap post. Numbers only if real. If the folder is empty, say so.

13. One-page brief (pin this)
Category: screenshot utility for coding-agent bills.
Not: gateway, observability, kill switch, CryptoBook social.
Object: watermarked 1080² PNG.
Ally: ccusage.
Enemy: the ugly crop, the fake control plane, the leftover domain, fake proof.
Funnel: impression → site → PNG → post → impression.
KPIs: downloads, public /c/ links, quote-posts. Not PH upvotes. Not MRR in 90 days.
90 days: seed the $6k card → their numbers → domain + optional gated PH.
Money: $0 media default. $500 only to amplify a card that already travels, or to buy the real domain.
Floor: Virtus Labs told the truth. Ceiling we will not promise: 263 people paying $19 because a PNG went viral.
